Last summer I sat in a recording studio with Miriam Akkermann and had a conversation about “Co-improvising with the Non-human,” my music and AI project supported by the Musikfonds STIP-5 scholarship. We talked about working with Sukandar on the Sophtar, my artistic residencies at CASCB and Emute Lab, developing bodies for algorithmic co-performers with Jonas Margraf and Aaron Verlooy, curating training datasets as part of one’s artistic practice, and the importance of openly discussing various aspects of working with algorithms in music and sound art. The episode features a recording of “Ghost in the Sophtar,” an improvisation I made during my residency at IRCAM. You can listen to the podcast, edited by Wouter Rentema, below. It is part of Mutant Frequencies, a series of conversations with Musikfonds fellows about AI and sound experimentation.
